Article 23

Council Regulation (EC) No 1257/1999 of 17 May 1999 on support for rural development from the European Agricultural Guidance and Guarantee Fund (EAGGF) and amending and repealing certain Regulations · European Union

1. Support shall be granted to farmers who give agri-environmental commitments for at least five years. Where necessary, a longer period shall be determined for particular types of commitments in view of their environmental effects. 2. Agri-environmental commitments shall involve more than the application of usual good farming practice. They shall provide for services which are not provided for by other support measures, such as market support or compensatory allowances.
