Council Decision of 6 April 2009 establishing the European Police Office (Europol) · European Union

Member States shall deal with any request by Europol to initiate, conduct or coordinate investigations in specific cases and shall give such requests due consideration. The Member States shall inform Europol whether the investigation requested will be initiated.
