(14) The Contracting Parties to the OSPAR Convention in 2007 adopted amendments to the Annexes to the Convention to allow the storage of CO_(2) in geological formations under the seabed, a Decision to ensure environmentally safe storage of CO_(2) streams in geological formations, and OSPAR Guidelines for Risk Assessment and Management of that activity. They also adopted a Decision to prohibit placement of CO_(2) into the water-column of the sea and on the seabed, because of the potential negative effects.
