(6) In particular, a reduction in NO_(x) emissions from heavy duty vehicles is necessary to improve air quality and comply with limit values for pollution and national emission ceilings. Setting limit values for NO_(x) emissions at an early stage should provide long-term, European Union-wide planning certainty for vehicle manufacturers.
