Article 17

Directive 2012/18/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of 4 July 2012 on the control of major-accident hazards involving dangerous substances, amending and subsequently repealing Council Directive 96/82/EC Text with EEA relevance · European Union

Following a major accident, Member States shall require the competent authority to: ensure that any urgent, medium-term and long-term measures which may prove necessary are taken; collect, by inspection, investigation or other appropriate means, the information necessary for a full analysis of the technical, organisational and managerial aspects of the accident; take appropriate action to ensure that the operator takes any necessary remedial measures; make recommendations on future preventive measures; and inform the persons likely to be affected, of the accident which has occurred and, where relevant, of the measures undertaken to mitigate its consequences.
