(46) Noise-differentiated infrastructure charges should complement other measures to reduce noise produced by rail traffic, such as the adoption of technical specifications for interoperability (TSI) setting maximum levels of noise produced by railway vehicles, noise mapping and action plans to reduce noise exposure under Directive 2002/49/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 25 June 2002 relating to the assessment and management of environmental noise OJ L 189, 18.7.2002, p. 12. as well as Union and national public funding for the retrofitting of rail vehicles and for noise-reduction infrastructures.
