(12) The mercury export ban laid down in Regulation (EC) No 1102/2008 should be complemented by restrictions on the import of mercury which vary depending on the source, the intended use and the place of origin of the mercury. Regulation (EC) No 1013/2006 of the European Parliament and of the Council Regulation (EC) No 1013/2006 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 14 June 2006 on shipments of waste (OJ L 190, 12.7.2006, p. 1). should continue to apply as regards imports of mercury waste, particularly as regards the powers of the competent authorities under that Regulation.
