(17) For the purposes of this Directive, personal data should be processed in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council (9), and with Regulation (EU) 2018/1725 of the European Parliament and of the Council (10). In particular, where this Directive allows for exchanges of personal data with third countries, the relevant provisions of Chapter V of Regulation (EU) 2016/679 and Chapter V of Regulation (EU) 2018/1725 should apply.
