Public waste management authorities shall ensure that collected waste batteries are treated in accordance with Article 70, either by: (a) handing them over to producers of the relevant category of batteries or, where appointed in accordance with Article 57(1), to producer responsibility organisations, or to waste management operators selected in accordance with Article 57(8); or (b) carrying out the treatment of the collected waste batteries themselves in accordance with Article 68(2).
