Article 17 — Effective confiscation and execution

1. Member States shall take the necessary measures to enable the tracing and identification of property to be frozen and confiscated even after a final conviction for a criminal offence or following proceedings for confiscation pursuant to Articles 15 and 16. 2. For the purpose of paragraph 1, Member States shall ensure that competent authorities are able to use tracing and identification tools that are as effective as those available for the tracing and freezing of assets under Chapter II of this Directive. 3. Member States may conclude cost-sharing agreements with other Member States on the execution of freezing and confiscation orders.
