(110) Both the essential characteristics of construction products and their assessment methods can only be determined by harmonised technical specifications to be developed for the various product families and product categories, or by European assessment documents. Accordingly, requirements and obligations incumbent on economic operators with regard to a certain product family or product category should only apply mandatorily as of 12 months after the entry into force of harmonised technical specification covering the respective product family or product category unless a later application date has been specified in the publication in the Official Journal of the European Union.
