(97) Member States should establish cooperation mechanisms at national and international level so that inspections can take place in an efficient manner with the objective of facilitating the prevention and detection of illegal treatment and export of end-of-life vehicles and addressing the issue of missing vehicles. Such mechanisms should allow for the exchange of vehicle registration data, necessary for tracking the vehicles and checking if they have been properly treated when they reach the end-of-life phase. In order to foster cooperation across the Union on those topics, the Commission and Member States should actively use relevant existing agencies, such as the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation (Europol), established by Regulation (EU) 2016/794 of the European Parliament and of the Council (24), as well as enforcement networks dedicated to address environmental crime across the Union.
