§4.2.1 Realistic worst case substances

In the likely case that the waste holder has some knowledge on the elements but not on the substances present in the waste, it is suggested to use the concept of determining ‘reasonable worst case’ substances for each identified element. These worst case substances should be determined for each hazardous property and in the following should be used for the assessment of hazardous properties (see Chapter 3.2.2). Worst case substances should be determined taking into consideration which substances reasonably could exist in the waste (e.g. based on the substances used in the process generating the waste and its associated chemistry) (4).
