Main origin
The EU is one of the world's crucial players in plastic manufacturing and in 2012 produced about 57 million tons of plastic. EU converter demand in 2012 was about 46 million tons and the quantity of post-consumer plastic waste was approximately 25 million tons (32). Plastic wastes arise from end of life plastic products from industrial or household applications. The generation of post-consumer plastics waste is dominated by plastic packaging waste. Other relevant sectors in particular are: building and construction, automotive, WEEE and agriculture (33).
