Schedule 7, paragraph 1

The registrar may at any time resign his office by written notice to the Secretary of State. The Secretary of State may remove the registrar from office if he is unable or unfit to discharge the functions of office. Subject to the above, a person appointed to be the registrar is to hold and vacate office in accordance with the terms of his appointment and, on ceasing to hold office, is eligible for reappointment.
