Section 52.1(3)

In this Part— “appeal” includes an appeal by way of case stated; “appeal court” means the court to which an appeal is made but does not include the Supreme Court; “lower court” means the court, tribunal or other person or body from whose decision an appeal is brought but does not include the Court of Appeal; “appellant” means a person who brings or seeks to bring an appeal; “respondent” means— a person other than the appellant who was a party to the proceedings in the lower court and who is affected by the appeal; and a person who is permitted by the appeal court to be a party to the appeal; ... “appeal notice” means an appellant’s or respondent’s notice ; and reference to an appeal in contempt proceedings is reference to— an appeal by a defendant in respect of any order or decision made by a court in the exercise of its jurisdiction to punish for contempt of court or under an enactment enabling the court to deal with an offence as if it were a contempt of court or under section 14, 92 or 118 of the County Courts Act 1984; and an appeal by an applicant in respect of any order made on an application for committal or attachment.
