(2) Maritime transport has an impact on the global climate and on air quality, as a result of the carbon dioxide (CO_(2)) emissions and other emissions that it generates, such as nitrogen oxides (NO_(x)), sulphur oxides (SO_(x)), methane (CH_(4)), particulate matter (PM) and black carbon (BC).
