Schedule 3, Part 1, Chapter 3, paragraph 17

The crushing of relevant waste for the purposes of volume reduction prior to collection. The table specifying relevant waste for the purposes of this paragraph is set out below. For the purposes of this paragraph, the specific conditions are that— the fluorescent tubes were used or intended to be used by the producer of the waste before becoming waste, the crushing is carried out by the producer of the waste at the place of production, the total quantity of waste crushed does not exceed 2 tonnes per year, the equipment used for crushing is owned by the producer, the mercury exposure limit is not exceeded, best available treatment, recovery and recycling techniques are used, the waste is stored in accordance with paragraph 1 of Annex VIII to the WEEE Directive, and the waste is crushed in accordance with paragraph 2 of Annex VIII to the WEEE Directive. In this paragraph— “best available treatment, recovery and recycling techniques” has the meaning given in paragraph 11(4) of this Section; “mercury exposure limit” means the workplace exposure limit for mercury set out in the document entitled “EH/40/2005 Workplace Exposure Limits” (second edition) issued by the Health and Safety Executive and published in 2011 .
